Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the marketing strategies one could not set aside if he has a business online, and using the world wide web as show window of his products and services. There are several factors a web designer should consider when designing a web site for search engine optimization. In this short article, however, I will be centering my discussion on linking only.

Linking, specially back links from other web sites to your web site, is a very important factor you should consider for your search engine optimization strategies (SEO). But don’t be mislead by the idea that a web site having more back links from other web sites would be better for your SEO strategies.

There are three powerful R’s needed in successful linking strategies for search engine optimization. The first R is about RELATIONSHIP of two web sites linking each other. When you link your web site to another web site, you should see to it that the other web site is of same category as your web site. So, if your site is about photography, your site’s best back link (or reciprocal link) should be about photography. It’s like family relationship. Two ties are stronger from within one family. That’s how the search engine services measure the links from one web site to another.

The second R in this linking requirement is about RELEVANCE. Making two linking web sites of same category doesn’t stop in that aspect. So, it doesn’t mean that if the two web sites are of same category for photography, they’ll get the vote or a score for that linking scoresheet. One specific factor that the search engine will look now from the links of these two web sites, is how relevant their contents are with each other. To simplify, a photo gallery web site for tourist spots of New York City is not relevant to a photo gallery web site about actors and actresses in Hollywood. A New York City photo gallery web site for tourist spots, would be more relevant to another photo gallery web site for tourist spots in Hollywood instead.

The third R in the linking strategy for SEO is about RANKING. Search engine services have their own way of ranking web sites. No matter how we decipher how one search engine formulates their algorythmic codes in ranking one web site to another, we could not make our own findings as standard or permanent. These search engine programs change everyday. So, if your web site is on top of the search engine result today, don’t stop from there. For tomorrow, you may not even see your web site in the first 10 pages of the search engine results. And one factor that might have affected your site’s ranking is the result of third R of linking strategies.

To simplify the third R for linking requirements, a back link from a web site that has higher search engine ranking is better than a back link from a site that is lower in ranking from the search engine service.

Whatever you do in life you always expect success as the end result of your efforts.  But victory is not easy and could not be achieved without norturing these 3 D’s of success.  First, you need the DESIRE or motivation to achieve your objective. The starting point of all achievements is desire. Some people might say your dream is impossible to achieve, but with your own desire to accomplish it, there’s nothing you can’t fulfill without the desire within you.  A poor man becomes a millionaire because of his desire to have more money. An NBA star believes he could fly to shoot a ball in the ring, because of his desire for fame.  A writer never sleeps at night, as long as ideas come out of his mind, because of his desire to become a blockbuster novelist and movie screenwriter.

The desire or motivation, on the other hand, should be strengthened by DISCIPLINE.  There are people, who in the midst of their near-success, meets temptations that lead them to the wrong direction.  A student who’s almost graduating in college failed to finish his course, because he joined a fraternity that burried him into the ravine of drug addiction.  An entrepreneur who’s almost becoming a millionaire with his innovative marketing ideas, went bankrupt when he associated with gamblers who brought him to gambling addiction.  These are simple examples of temptations, that lead people to failure when someone’s descipline is not strong enough to achieve one’s objective in life.  So, strengthen the discipline in you by surrounding yourself with like-minded people.

DETERMINATION is the father of desire and discipline.  You can never achieve and win what you desire if you have no definiteness in acquiring such victory. But simply having determination doesn’t mean you’re already on the road to success. Determination should be powered by knowledge of the skills needed to achieve an objective.  You need to learn about the skills and place them into practice. Then, when you have enough training to strategize your steps, you need to develop your experiences into expertise.  It is these expertise that strengthens your determination to achieve success.

Findability is one of the factors needed in making a business successful. Without this, your business will be in the clouds of uncertainty. Address, accessibility, and availability are the three words that best describes findability. Whether your business is the traditional one offline, or business that is dependent upon the worldwide web, both needs to be findable.

As an offline business the address should be a place where people always converge. Before WalMart and McDonald open their business in a certain place, they would go to the place first, and check where there are lots of people who regularly pass and converge. Aside from the street visitation, WalMart would even use helicopter or airplane to check from the aerial view where there are lots of people, or where people are crowding.

A business that’s solely dependent on the Internet needs the same physical address requirement. But aside from it, the business needs also a URL or uniform resource locator that would point the address of the business in the Internet. The physical address of my business is at 8849 186th Street, Hollis, New York 11423. While the URL address of my business is at http://advanzit.com .

Unlike the traditional way of doing business, wherein survey first of where people are massively crowding is the best place to open a business, in the Internet the business owner builds the website first based on his target niche market. Then, he creates later a marketing strategy, so that his Internet business will be visited and crowded by prospects and customers.

To make your business or website findable in the Internet, you should make a strategy that would make it findable by people. The cheapest, (and even free), but hardest to accomplish is making your web site search engine optimized with the right keywords based on its content. Why it’s hard is because, you need strategies to know what keywords are being used by web surfers that would point them to the products and services you are offering in your site. Besides, the standards set by search engine services like Google, Yahoo and MSN, are tightly kept secrets, that it’s really hard for amateur and professional web developers to develop their own strategies which will beat these algorithmic standards.

If you’ve read my first article, prior to this one, you have already the most common strategies of search engine optimization (SEO). Once you’ve succeeded in placing your web site at the first page with these common strategies, you have to keep working on how you’re going to maintain your position at the top. There’s nothing really to rejoice even if you’ve reached this point, because of the volatility of standards of the search engine web sites. You may have discovered today the secrets in going to the top, but tomorrow you’ll just suddenly find out that your site is no longer at the top of search engines with the same strategies you’ve just used.

The only way to be always at the top with a certain keyword is if you own the word, and it’s uniquely yours. The word “businessmate,” for example, is a keyword that best fit the domain name businessmate.com. That’s why if you search the word “businessmate,” you’ll always be presented by the search engines on their first page the web site for businessmate.com. But keywords like “New York City” are words being used by hundreds of web sites promoting New York City. So, if you’re a web site owner with same objective of selling products and services related to New York City, you should have the best SEO strategies that will make your site findable, and at the top of the competition.

It takes more than a dream to become successful in business. It is a risky endeavor if you will simply jump into it without proper planning. It’s not just money, but time, reputation, job, and family relationships are wrecked when business fails. The risks never stop even if the business survives or becomes financially successful. But you can dramatically reduce the odds of failure if you develop the right plan and actions in every phase of your business. Don’t forget to consider these 3 M’s you needed in getting down to business.

Setting up a business is like planning for a long distance road trip. You need a road map to trace down your starting point, and list the names of highways where you are going to turn until you reach your point of destination. To start a business you need a marketing plan that details how you intend to distribute or sell your products and make sales. You need a system plan that outlines the space and equipments for your business. Most important of all, you need a financial plan to trace down how you will build and maintain a positive cash flow.

Knowing your market and target customers is another factor to consider in starting a business. Some people open business, because they were simply driven by desire to make more money without surveying first if their planned business would really serve their target customers. Niche marketing is a type of doing business based on a specific need of group of customers. This is an end product of proper surveying, before an entrepreneur opens a business with a specific product or service for a particular group of customers.

Time management and people management are also important factors one should consider before opening a business. Focus and attention is needed in growing a business. So, if you don’t have much time to directly manage your business, you should be able to delegate it to the right person who could manage it. See to it that this person meets the requirements, having the attitudes and characteristics to manage the business in your absence. The people plan determines what kind of employees you’ll need, and what skills should they posses to run your business.

As an entrepreneur with no experience yet in business, these are the three “M’s” you need to know before you go into business – money, marketing, and management. With money available, right marketing strategies, and proper management of people, your business will grow as you expected at the start.

How do you maximize usage of your web site with huge hard disk space from your provider, when you have limited time to write more articles that will fill it up? With the hundreds of web hosting providers now, owning a web site for commercial use is almost free. The hard disk space they provide to their customers, are so huge it could not easily be consumed by an amateur web owner. My web hosting provider, for example, in this web site gave me 1000 gigabytes of space for $3.89/month. It’s almost free to me, if I compare it to almost $7.00 I pay for my McDonald’s meal, twice a week.

The most popular way to add content to a web site is by filling it up with free reprints of articles by other Internet experts and professional writers. But even copying and pasting these copyright-free articles are time consuming and laborious. The fastest time I could finish copying a copyright-free article from a web site source, and customize the page to my site is 45 minutes. That’s because the process involved here is not only copying and pasting the article, but inserting on the page the different codes for affiliate ads, and other links. Testing the article and the page further on how it will finally look in the internet browser will consume more minutes, making your time consumed to at least 60 minutes or one hour per article. So, even if you exert a full-time effort on your web site, you could only add eight copyright-free articles on your web site per day (if you’re working 8 hours a day), or 56 copyright-free articles in 7 days. That’s too far from what I’ve just discovered from a software that creates pictures into html pages, which I will share to you as you read this article.

I found another innovation which would surely be likened by busy entrepreneurs like you. The strategy is by publishing a photo gallery section in your web site. From my weekend hobby of going around New York City, and taking pictures with my digital camera since 1999, I found my collection of pictures very useful in making my web site “magnetic” and enjoyable to visitors. What’s more amazing is that in each page with a postcard size picture, I could insert banner ads and text ads from affiliate partners, which is another source of income for an internet-based business.

The image web page creator program that I have converts my digital photo gallery into html pages with a feature that makes the pages like a movie presentation. The automatic changing of page to its next page makes my visitors enjoy the beauty of my carefully selected digital pictures, without exerting too much efforts on clicking the mouse to move to the next picture. In each picture page I inserted banner ads and a text ads which advertise the products and services of my affiliate partners. Doing this innovation, I built a virtual theme park for my collection of digital pictures. It’s like tourist spots you could visit anytime with the click of your mouse. The only difference is that it’s free, and you experience the sceneries in front of your computer.

It’s easier to create photo galleries now for the web, because these programs come with the purchase of digital cameras. If you want to try this marketing idea, but you have limited pictures for the gallery, you could visit some photo gallery web sites who offer free downloads of their photo collections. One good name I could recommend to you is businessmate.com. However, if you have a collection of your own digital pictures now, don’t just keep them in your hard disks. Use them as HTML pages that could make your web site content-rich and favorite of the search engine crawlers and spiders. It’s faster to build hundreds of web pages from these pictures, than the time-consuming writing articles. When I redesigned my web site for bigapplecity.com I was able redesign more than 2500 html pages in 7 days – an accomplishment I could not do if used written articles (even if they’re reprints from other web sites hosting copyright-free articles). I’m so thankful to Arles Web Page Creator – a software that creates pictures into html-coded photo gallery, using a built-in wizard that creates html pages. The good thing with this program, it has also a feature that let’s you customize your photo gallery with affiliate ads of your choice.

Maximizing the content of your site with photographs, is faster than writing articles, or reprinting published articles from other web sites. There’s one tip you should not forget when using this stragey – don’t forget to place the right key terms in the alt tags of these pictures, because the search engine spiders and crawlers don’t recognize images. So, you need to add alternate tags for these images – key terms that you need to feed these crawlers and spiders that will bring your web site in the first page of search engine results.

Hello, world!  Welcome to “Experts Write About – User Friendly Ideas for the Not-So-Tech-Savvy Entrepreneur.”  I named this domain with “experts write about dot com,” because you’ll find tens of thousands of expert ideas from this site.  If you think you’re an expert on your own field, and you have some articles to share, this site is open for you. I’m currently designing a section at this site, where you could post your articles for free, with back links to your main web site. Once this section is done, you’ll be reading this announcement here as a blog. Meanwhile, below is my first blog, which is about making your web site - content-rich and search engine optimized (SEO).

Search engine optimization (SEO) strategies are collection of strategies used in designing and maintaining a web site, so that it comes out on the first pages of search results of Google, Yahoo, and MSN when key terms related to the pages or site are searched by an internet user. There are other web sites catering to search engine services. But these three giants (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) are the most popular ones.

The words used in a web site’s domain name could be helpful key terms for a particular web site. A domain name like BigAppleCity.com, for example, will surely be on top of the search result pages when one searches for key terms “big apple city” in Google. The web site thenokiablog.com, is easily a top-page result when searchers look for blogs pertaining to Nokia, by using key terms “nokia blog.”

Next to the domain name, the other parts of a home page or landing page that should be given attention for search engine optimization (SEO) strategies are the meta tags for title, description, and keywords. These meta tags are HTML codes intended for crawlers and spiders. An ordinary person browsing a web page doesn’t see these tags on the screen. But the search engine programs called as crawlers and spiders see these tags, and collect the contents of these tags for the search engine’s database.

Search engine optimization (SEO) strategies don’t end with “doctoring” or editing the meta tags of a home page or a landing page. The next part that crawlers search for in a page are the terms used in the main heading and sub-headings. To a web page designer these titles are html codes h1 to h6. Crawlers and spiders are said to be sensitive to words that are bold, colored and italicized. These kind of words are usually found in headings and sub-headings of a page.

After checking the headings and sub-headings, the crawlers look next at the content of the home page, landing page, or group of pages. So, the key terms of your site should be consistently relevant to all of the above elements – domain name, meta tags (for title, description, keywords), headings, and sub headings. The articles on the page should contain the same key terms the crawlers find in these elements. Since pages contain also some graphics and pictures related to the articles, the alternate name for each image should have the same key terms discussed in the article where it was inserted.

The next aspect that crawlers check is how relevant is the content of the site to the other sites linking it. Once the crawlers see link from another web site, the crawlers visit that site, and check the relevancy of the content they’re linking at your site. These linking pages from other web sites should have similar key terms and relevant content as your site’s page or pages. Else, the crawlers will deny the value of the links, and will not count them as relevant links.

The hardest requirement of search engine optimization (SEO) is the aspect of making it content-rich. Your web site should be content-rich with information related to the key terms you wanted search engines to place your site in their top pages. So, if the key terms you wanted to use for your search engine optimization (SEO) strategies are the terms “big apple city,” your web page or web site should have a lot of topics and pages related to the Big Apple or New York City. This requirement will surely knock you down and back out from the race of making your web site at the top pages of the search engines if you have no time to write on regular basis, or you don’t know how to write contents for your web site.

Publishing copyright-free articles from other locations to your web site is the fastest way to make your site content-rich. But having these relevant copyright-free articles in your web site is tricky and time-consuming. It’s been discussed in some books about search engine optimization (SEO), that Google, Yahoo, and MSN don’t just rely on the crawlers and spiders to decide on the fate of a page’s rank – whether it’s going to appear on top of the result page or not. These giants still employ programmers to check if a certain page is really worth to appear on the top page of the search engine result, or not. If these programmers find that the articles you published in your site had been overused in thousands of other web sites, they will decide that your site is of low quality and not worth to be at the top page of the search engine result. That’s because, they want quality results for the users of their search services.

Let’s say the above presumption is not true, since there are millions of web pages on the Internet, and it’s impossible for a programmer to check how many thousand times an article was repeatedly published in different web sites. You should be aware that copying and pasting a single copyright-free article from the source location to your site will take at least 45 minutes to an hour until it’s saved as html file and becomes viewable for your site. That’s because after pasting the article to a blank page or a template, you’re still going to check for its paragraphing and other formatting styles that would make it fit to read in your site. If you did not prepare a template with codes for links, affiliate ads, and other features, you will be consuming more minutes manually designing this page. In my own experience, I actually consumes up to two hours for all these procedures – for just re-publishing a single copyright-free article on my site. So, in eight hours of attention to your site, you’ll probably be lucky to copy and paste four copyright-free articles that would be ready for browsing in your site – a very slow process to make your site content-rich and search engine optimized.

Content-rich web site per se, is not just about a web site that’s heavy with articles or information to read. Crawlers measure how content-rich a web site by the number of folders and individual html pages in the site. The html pages doesn’t necessarily be fully loaded with text, but with combination of images, photos, and movies, too. Photography sites, for example, have more photos than text. And if it has thousands of photographs, and lesser text in its site, it’s still considered content-rich for the services it is intended to. Since crawlers and spiders can’t read photos and images as texts, you could still alert these programs with the key terms you wanted them to capture by placing the key terms in the alternative text or alt value inside the <img> tag. These are the words that pops out when you point your mouse on top of an image or picture in a web page

In the course of finding a better way to make my web site content-rich faster, I’ve found a simple, yet powerful program that could make hundreds of html pages for my site at a lightning speed of 200 html pages with all the requirements of search engine optimization in less than a minute! The best thing with this program, is that you don’t need to be a savvy web designer, or experienced html programmer to make your web pages professional looking. The codes for meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, and affiliate ads are all done through templates of your choice (or customized by you). All you need to do in your part is prepare first your needed meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, and affiliate ads. Then insert or paste them in the text boxes where they should be placed. Once you click the button named “All” at the menu bar of this program, it will do the html coded pages for you. In less than a minute, it creates 200 html pages from 200 pictures you prepared in a single photo album (or folder) – complete with all the meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, affiliate ads etc.

As far as the meta tags for search engine optimization strategy (SEO) is concerned this program has a text box where you enter the meta tags for title, description, and keywords of every page it creates. This program has also a feature of making every page created as RSS feed ready. With the help of this program, I rebuilt my hobby web site on photography (http://bigapplecity.com/) that’s been slowly developed by me for 10 years with more than 5000 pages of pictures in just 2 days. This happened last year when I moved out from my previous web hosting company, because my web site was always hacked and vandalized.

This program is very powerful and so easy to use, you’ll be able to create your web pages at an average of 200 html pages per minute. This program was designed for creating photo albums for photo gallery feature of web sites. So, this 200 html pages I’m mentioning here are 200 photographs, created into html pages with 10 index pages (or albums), and 200 individual image pages of pictures with meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, and affiliate ads. But once you become familiar with this program, you could actually customize it for designing your regular web page with longer articles and more pictures per page. As an example, you will also see how I converted an index page of purely pictures, into one typical home page with the album and my manually added banners, texts, and other links at http://overseasfilipinos.com/ .

Compared to making content-rich web site with copyright-free articles, where you’ll spend two hours setting up a single copyright-free article as one html page for your site, this strategy of making your web site content-rich with photographs is better and faster. Here, you have consistent and easy control of the meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, and affiliate ads on every page of your site. You simply prepare everything in one template, and once you click the button that will trigger the creation of html pages (200 pages in this example), you have created 200 pages with the meta tags, texts, graphics, banners, headers, footers, and affiliate ads you wanted to insert on all 200 pages in less than a minute. That’s 12,000 html pages in 60 minutes!

With the availability of affordable digital cameras now, it’s easier to take pictures around for your web site than to sit down in front of your computer and compose your articles. You’re not even sure if you’ll be able to write an article once you sit down in front of your computer. But with a digital camera on hand, you could immediately take hundreds of pictures once you go to a place that interests you. And by the time you go back to your computer, you could surely make html pages with these pictures and components of your search engine optimization (SEO) strategies through the aid of this web page designing program program.

The program I am mentioning in this article is the Arles Image Web Page Creator, which is currently in its version 8. You could download this at http://www.digitaldutch.com.  It’s fully functional, and you could use it in 30 days for evaluation purposes. I’ve been using this program for my web site designing since 2003. Designing my web sites with photo gallery features had been so easy and fast for me, since I started using this Arles Image Web Page Creator.

Best of all my search engine optimization (SEO) strategies for the web sites are so effective with the help of this program. Imagine in one push of a button, all the html pages that it creates come consistently with the requirements for search engine optimization (SEO) strategies. My two web sites that I mentioned as samples above are always on the top page of search engine results of Google, Yahoo, and MSN when key terms related to them are searched at these giant search engines.
